The Congo Border
Martin writes... 14 Months ago, the team from Africaoverland.org attempted to cross the Gabon / Congo border at a small border post near Mbinda.  Three days after arriving they managed to cut the gate lock and cross the border.  Since then we had thought that some more traffic would have crossed the border - but it was not to be.

We arrived at the Gabon border at 3pm on the 23rd May, only to be told that the border was closed due to the Ebola virus in Northern Congo. After two hours negotiation (thanks to the Italians), we were given permission to exit Gabon on the condition that we would not be allowed to return in case we transmitted the virus.

The Congo border entry was 30km away so after a hasty drive along a very twisty road we arrived only to be told that the gate for vehicles was locked and that it had not been used in a long time.  We think the Africaoverland.org team were the last to use a vehicle to cross the border.  Eventually, the Congolese border officials arrived at 9pm and after hacking the route clear to open the gate, they escorted us to a local church were we spent the evening.

Besides for the long long border wait, the Congolese officials have been the most friendly of the whole trip.
